Freshmen Education Abroad Scholarship
Program Terms: Fall
Program Description:
The Freshmen Education Abroad Scholarship was created by the Office of International Programs in order to encourage enrollment in Global Issues & Perspecitives courses and the LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course on campus, as well as to encourage participation on a study abroad program, for those who may otherwise not be able to afford this type of experience.

Up to 10 recipients per year will be awarded $750 to help cover the cost of tuition and fees for enrollment in a Global Issues & Perspecitives course or the LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course.  An additional $2,000 will be available to those awarded the $750 scholarship, to help fund a study abroad experience on an approved K-State study abroad program.*

Selected recipients will be required to:
  • Enroll in, and successfully complete (pass) a Global Issues and Perspectives course , as listed at http://www.ksu.edu/kstate8/lists/June2011/Global_Issues_and_Perspectives.pdf**, or the LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course.  Although students may apply for the scholarship while enrolled in the fall semester LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course, it is strongly suggested that recipients enroll in the Global Issues and Perspectives course the semester following the notification of award.
  • Develop an approved study abroad plan (guidelines to be provided by a Study Abroad Advisor) and officially present it to a Study Abroad Advisor in the Office of International Programs during the term in which they are enrolled in the Global Issues and Perspectives Course or the term after they complete the LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course.
ELIGIBILITY: Freshmen who are participating in their first semester at K-State during the term the application is due, and who have 29 or fewer credits on their K-State academic record at the time of application.  Students must be enrolled at K-State full time at the time of application. Preference will be given to students who qualify for Federal Financial Aid.

SELECTION: will be made by the OIP Scholarship Committee, and will be based on the following criteria:
  • Response to: "How will your enrollment in a Global Issues and Perspectives course or LEAD 502 Global Citizenship course and a study abroad experience benefit your academic, career and personal goals?" (200 words maximum)
  • Federal Financial Aid eligibility

TO APPLY: Please click the Apply NOW button at the top on this page. The deadline for 2014 is October 17, 2014.

* The additional $2,000 scholarship will be distributed to recipients once they have been committed to a K-State approved study abroad program.

** The $750 scholarship will be distributed to recipients once they have enrolled in a qualifying Global Issues and Perspectives course, as listed at http://www.k-state.edu/kstate8/lists/June2011/Global_Issues_and_Perspectives.pdf, as the intention of the award is to help cover the cost of tuition and fees for that course.
