Program Description:
MEXT Japanese Studies Scholarship
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in Japan

This scholarship program is not run through Education Abroad at Kansas State University.  Therefore the APPLY NOW button has been removed.  If you wish to apply to this scholarship program, please follow the directions below or click the Request Info button to create an advising application.


This scholarship is specifically for college students majoring in Japanese Language or Studies.  Students will spend one year furthering their studies at a university in Japan.

  • Must be studying a Japan-related major.
  • Must have legal U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be age 18-30 at the time of departure.

The scholarship provides full tuition and airfare and a ¥125,000 stipend.

How to Apply:

Applications are available in January and due in February/March.  There will be in-person interviews in March.  Students will depart for Japan in September of that year.
